The Rehmat
★★★★★ 4.9 STAR SELLER RATING
An heirloom rug from the Turkmen & Bokhara collection
Vintage Pakistani Bokhara Carpet — 1980s | 10'1" x 14'3"
The Rehmat is a vintage Pakistani carpet woven circa the 1980s in the Bokhara style, prized for its tight, fine weave and endlessly repeating gul medallions. Silk-like in hand and rich in luster, it carries forward a pattern language rooted in Central Asian tribal weaving, reinterpreted by master weavers in Pakistan with exceptional pile quality and craftsmanship. Part of our Turkmen & Bokhara collection, it represents a later, equally skilled chapter in a design story centuries in the making.
- Origin: Pakistan (Bokhara style)
- Age: Vintage, circa 1980s
- Type: Area Rug
- Construction: Hand-knotted wool
- Pile: Long-stapled wool, plush and silk-like
- Use: Indoor
- Size: 10'1" x 14'3"
Each rug is handcrafted and unique. Variations in sheen, dye saturation, and pile luster are natural characteristics of fine hand-knotted rugs and reflect authenticity rather than imperfection.
Description
The Rehmat features extremely detailed, multi-column and multi-row gul medallions worked in tight, fine repetition across the full field—an execution often called the "elephant's footprint," though the motifs are in fact geometric floral forms rather than literal depictions. To learn more about this and other recurring rug symbols, see our guide to common rug motifs.
The pile is exceptionally plush and soft, woven from long-stapled wool that renders a silk-like sheen and high luster. This gives the rug a distinctive light-and-dark dynamic as viewing angle shifts, a hallmark of superior wool quality and dense, precise knotting. The palette is deep and grounded: black, terra cotta, ivory, oxidized copper green, and chestnut come together across the medallion field and border.
At 10'1" x 14'3", the Rehmat is a substantial statement piece, ideal for formal living rooms, dining rooms, and other large-format interiors where its intricacy and sheen can command the room.
History
The Bokhara style originates in the gul-medallion weavings of Turkmen tribal confederations across Central Asia, historically traded through the markets of Bukhara. As demand for the pattern grew, weaving centers in Pakistan began producing rugs in this spirit, refining the gul motif into the dense, fine, multi-row compositions seen here.
Woven circa the 1980s, the Rehmat reflects this Pakistani interpretation at a high level of craft—made in the spirit of centuries-old carpets, with an emphasis on knot density, wool quality, and finish. Explore this lineage further in our guide to the best rug styles for collectors.
About the Name
Rehmat means "mercy," "grace," or "blessing" in Urdu.
The name reflects the rug's warmth and generosity of scale—a large-format piece meant to be lived with and passed down, its rich tones and high sheen bringing a graceful presence to any room it fills.
Rehmat captures the Bokhara tradition at its most accomplished: precise, luminous, and woven with evident skill and care.
